Velcro was invented by George de Mestral, a swiss engineer who wondered why when walking in the woods burdock seeds would cling to his coat and dog. He patented his idea in 1955.

There are 2 sides to velcro the soft also known as the hoop/soft and the hook/prickly side. We are using the terms soft and prickly when referring to velcro used in the Body Loop. This magnified image of velcro illustrates how the the hooks and loops connect.
